Hello. Thanks for stopping by.
We all live in an increasingly dangerous and burdensome world when it comes to using our computers these days - especially when it comes to the Internet. Today, just to access the Internet safely, securely, efficiently and enjoyably requires an anti-virus program, a hardware firewall, a software firewall, a program(s) that checks/detects/prevents adware and spyware, popup blocker, spam filters, file cleaner(s), encryption program, etc - all properly configured AND regularly updated for YOUR particular system and needs, AND regularly used by you! A single infection or system penetration can cause your computer to fail or actual hardware damage to it (usually at the worse time!), your invaluable personal/professional/commercial data and programs to be stolen and/or lost (including your financial data and personal identity), the corruption of your computer registry, the installation and/or running of secret, unwanted and harmful background programs and data transfers to/from your open ports (including criminals perpetrating their crimes against others through YOUR computer totally unknown to you!), your computer's resources driven to dangerously low levels, and/or your system so hopelessly bogged down and entangled that it frequently freezes/reboots/ and/or operates so slowly and unreliably that you might as well be back in the 1990s! If you have not recently seriously been afflicted by at least one of these major problems (as well as a nearly endless supply of lesser problems) then either your system already has supreme protection already installed and you don't need us to fix anything for you, or you are among the tiny percentage of people who have been missed so far by the army of malicious hackers, spammers, and scammers that inflict the Internet.

Most of today's computers are so soundly built that the hardware should work flawlessly for about a decade if you use reasonable care and a decent line transient supressor (both 120 VAC power and dial-up phone line), you use reasonable care in inserting and removing disks, CDs, connectors, etc, your computer's environment is reasonably clean, and your hard drive is on a level and steady surface. Yet, many people today when they experience a computer problem erroneously believe that the problem is due to some kind of expensive hardware failure. Simply because your system fails on you, locks up, won't turn ON, won't boot, won't shut down, spontaneously boots or shuts down, won't access peripherals, and is giving you fatal error blue screens left and right does not mean that your system has a hardware failure. While hardware failures do still occur, we have found that more than 70% of the computer problems we have run into in recent years were purely software in nature, only about 10% were purely hardware in nature (e.g. a CDROM failing), and about 20% were mixed.

While powerful computers are not that expensive these days, your major investment into your computer system is not the computer system itself, but the many other computer programs, hardware, program settings and procedures you laboriously got your system to work with, as well the 100s or perhaps even 1,000s of data files that you have laboriously stored on it. Toss out your $2,000 computer, and you may be tossing out $10,000+ in your cost, time and trouble you personally invested into YOUR SYSTEM to try to get it to work the way you want it to work. Just consider how much time and trouble you waste each time you format your hard drive because you are being driven nuts by failures and you know of no other effective way to get rid of the increasing swarm of problems - time and trouble wasted in reinstalling all of your programs, files, drivers, etc. Formatting a hard drive is really a last resort solution. Many seemingly impossible to solve problems can actually be solved without having to reformat your hard drive. To prove it to you, we've created this webpage on a 6-year old Windows 98 system that averages about 6 hours/day on the Internet for years and does much of our email - that we have never had to format in those 6 years - that has never been in any shop but ours!

We personally enjoy the challenge of repairing, installing, modifying, upgrading and updating computer systems, and do such a good job at it - since the 1980s to today. You really should consider letting us tackle your computer problems and needs. Life is too short, and if you don't really understand what you are doing, you can flail around for days, weeks and even months dealing with computer problems robbing you of your computer's capabilities, your time to be more productive, and your time to be with your family and friends. Recall when you were back in high school, and you had a difficult math problem to solve, you neither had a clue on how to solve it nor 10 years to try to figure it out. What did you do back then? More than likely, you turned to the class math geek to help you out. There is no shame in not being an expert at everything. You might be among the finest doctors, dentists, attorneys, mechanics, artists, real estate agents or whatever. We don't know enough to do surgeries, install crowns, make a difficult car repair or paint a beautiful sunset. Instead, we turn to others, like yourself, to do the things we are not highly competent at. And at no loss of pride.

Or you may know a lot about computers, but you are making so much money or having so much fun doing something else or you are involved in something else that has a greater demand for you time, you don't want to or can't afford to spend your time with working on your computer. Consider what your time is really worth, then decide accordingly. Certainly, you didn't become prosperous because of a lack of prioritization expertise.

You will find below a comprehensive list of things that can go wrong with computer systems. We provide you this list so that we can focus onto YOUR PARTICULAR NEEDS like a laser beam. The last time you brought your ailing computer into a repair shop, did they ask you all of these questions? More than likely, all you got to provide them was a brief description. Just what kind of a job are they going to do for you trying to fix and optimize YOUR COMPUTER FOR YOUR NEEDS if they can't even bother to ask you in detail what specific problems you are experiencing (unless both of you have psychic powers)? Some charge big bucks for absolutely minimal servicing! And how much do they care about the privacy of your data? See below regarding how much we care.

In addition, if your service requires the repair or tune-up of your system, we will also include a special manual for YOU on what we recommend for you to do to keep your system in good working condition over the long term, including recommended software (largely freeware or shareware) that either you can later install on your system without us or we can do it for you as part of the service you have contracted for.

To summarize, when you have a difficult computer problem, clearly it makes sense to turn to us computer geeks at Consumertronics.net to help you out. We are in business in New Mexico for 30+ years. We want to do a good job for you. Even if all you need is just a computer tune-up now and then, we will gladly accommodate you there also.

WHY SHOULD I PAY ANYONE TO SERVICE MY COMPUTER WHEN I CAN GET MY AUNT MILDRED FROM WACO TO SERVICE IT FOR ME FOR FREE?: For starters, you might ask your Aunt Mildred just how endearing it is to her to do a lot of free high-tech work for family members. Certainly, if she can and will do the job for you for free, you don't need us. Unfortunately, most people either don't have an Aunt Mildred, or if they do, she is not anxiously waiting on her porch for them to deposit their broken high tech gear there.

WHO ARE YOU?: My name is John J. Williams, MSEE. I am the Head Geek here at Consumertronics.net. I am an electrical engineer, and high tech and security writer and publisher. I design, repair, modify, install, update, and upgrade electronic and computer hardware and software for 20+ years now. In addition, I am a computer programmer - I can even do your website for you - ecommerce or personal, if that's what you wish (all webpages associated with our business are done by me, including all active graphics, shopping cart, drop down menus, search engines, etc) - or other computer programming. Our team at Consumertronics.net is devoted to doing a great job for YOU!

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ME?: At your place or ours, in most cases: (1) We can repair your computer hardware and software. (2) We can recover your critical data locked up on your hard drive. (3) We can install, modify, update and upgrade your software and hardware. (4) We can clean up the garbage, computer infections and adware/spyware that have accumulated on your computer for years. (5) We can modify and repair your computer registry using special software that automates this process and/or manually, as required. In short, we can return your system to a point that it is working much faster and efficiently, while much more protecting your privacy than ever before. If we can't substantially improve your system, all we will charge you is our $35 nonrefundable system evaluation fee, plus the current minimum wage hourly rate for the hours we devoted to that part of our service that did not substantially improve your system, plus the total cost of whatever hardware and software, if any, we've installed on your system for that part of our service, plus any shipping/handling involved in returning your system to you; and we will return your system with that part of your system restored as close as we can to the state that it was in when you provided it to us (NOTE: No hourly fee refunds are provided unless we can make this restoration).
Because we keep good notes on what significant findings and changes we have made, and we make frequent backups and printouts as we can, to whatever extent we need to restore your computer to a previous state because a change has created some serious problem or has not significantly improved computer system function, we usually can restore the computer quickly, safely and completely. Wherever you bring your computer to be serviced - make sure that you tell them that you require that they make a detailed log with backups and-or printouts of all significant findings and changes they make regarding your system.
Servicing computers is usually a complex endeavor because numerous pieces of hardware, software, the operating system, the Internet and other networks interact and interrelate to each other in very complex and changing ways, usually in which some of the software and/or hardware are incompatible, buggy, or infected or otherwise damaged. Even the best doctor who understands a medical condition very well cannot always solve it. When you make changes in a computer to try to improve it, the end result is not always predictable. The same change successfully done in 100 previous systems, will not always succeed in the 101st system as no two systems are exactly alike. But just as doctors are sworn to not cause harm to you, we will never do anything that we know is intentionally harmful to your computer or its data. Please also note that if you wish to install/modify/upgrade/update your computer hardware or software and your system currently suffers from a known problem or defect, you should most certainly have us repair the problem or defect PRIOR to us attempting to install/modify/upgrade/update your system, because any such changes can complicate and worsen the existing problem or defect or require much more time than normally expected to accomplish because the problem or defect hinders or nullifies our ability to make such changes. In fact, we will not do an install/modify/upgrade/update on a system with a substantial known operational problem or defect unless the install/modify/upgrade/update is one designed to detect, determine, reduce, cure or prevent that specific type of problem or defect (e.g. upgrading a printer driver for a printer that's not working right, replacing a bad CDROM for a better model one, installing an anti-virus program, etc ).

WHEN IT COMES TO MY DATA, DO YOU ASSURE STRICT DATA CONFIDENTIALITY?: The personal, professional and commercial privacy of data is extremely important, and should always be your major consideration when selecting a computer servicer. When it comes to your data on your system, we maintain strict confidentiality. Unless you have contracted with us to recover your data, we need your stored data to test a software or hardware feature or function, or we inadvertently run into it trying to ferret out files that may be clogging your system or otherwise causing it problems, we have no interest whatsoever in viewing your data files stored on your system. And we will never divulge whatever data of yours we may become exposed to unless we are legally required to do so by a court of competent jurisdiction. During a time of War, I served our Country in the Army to protect our liberties and freedoms (I am a Disabled Veteran) - an oath that I personally take very seriously all my life. We are a small family business. We don't have a store front. We don't allow clients or visitors near our work. We don't have people milling around in our shop peering over our shoulders, or tampering with our systems during a break. While you may greatly trust the business owners now servicing your computer, consider all of the people that typically go in and out of the work areas of many shops with little attention to either data or hardware security. I've seen computer repair shops where even strangers off of the street can gain access to the systems being worked on!
We expect to do a very good job for you so that not only will you come back to us for your future computer needs, but you will also spread the word about how good we are at providing this attentive, effective, private and reasonably priced computer servicing.

WHAT ARE YOUR RATES?: Unless otherwise explicitly contracted for to the contrary, our hourly rates are: (1) $29 per hour for all hardware and software repairs and modifications, including all registry repairs and changes. (2) $24 per hour for all hardware and software installations, upgrades, updates, and non-registry tune-ups and other maintenance, and for all computer programming. (3) $19 per hour for all manual writing, conversations with clients, research, for driving to and from the location of the job site or to pick up parts or software, and all other jobs not covered by (1) or (2). The minimum fees based on hourly rates for a job is $50, and our hourly fees are broken down into 15 minute increments. Refunds only apply to the hourly fees. In addition, we charge a nonrefundable $35 evaluation fee, plus $1 per mile for required travel (if any), plus the total of all shipping, handling and insurance charges to ship your items to you (you are responsible for all shipping and handling charges incurred, if any, in sending your items to us), plus the cost of all hardware and software we install on your system that we paid for (our markup is 50% above the total amount we pay for any hardware or software involved in your job (retail stores, plumbers, TV repair shops, auto shops, etc typically markup at 100%-400%)), plus all expenses, charges, fees and costs we incur directly or indirectly related to the collection of any unpaid debt (if any). The total amount of all outstanding charges must not exceed $100 at any time, and if it does, we reserve the right to automatically cancel the contract without liability to us. Furthermore, we reserve the right to change our rates and other charges at any time that have not been locked into contract, without prior notification or liability to us. Furthermore, we reserve the right to do or not do business with anyone we so please within the law without explanation or liability to us. Furthermore, we reserve the right to terminate any contract without prior notification, explanation or liability to us due to any serious unforeseen situation that prevents us from the timely completion of work (e.g. death, serious injury or illness, "Acts of God"), or if it appears that any further work by us would cause an unanticipated legal liability to us, or if the client tells us to stop working on his/her items. Furthermore, we reserve the right to refuse to return any or all of the client's items, without liability to us, unless and until we have been paid in full. Furthermore, in the event of any outstanding amount owed to us by the client more than 60 days after the owed amount was incurred, we may, at no liability to us and without prior notification required, dispose of any or all of the client's items as we see fit as partial or full payment for the amount owed, and/or to charge a storage fee of 25 cents per pound per day ($2 minimum per day) for all storage time beyond the 60 days and up to a period of five years.

HOW CAN I AVAIL MYSELF OF YOUR SERVICES?: Simple. Print out, complete and provide us this Computer Service Contract form below along with your computer system and-or peripheral, and a $35 nonrefundable evaluation fee. We can do our service work at your place, pick up your system from you or you can ship it to us. This contract and evaluation fee are what we need from you to start to service your system, along with your system and relevant software installed on it (we require everything in writing so that there is no misunderstanding as to what you want us to do for you). You can fax us at, (call to schedule), or snail mail this completed and signed contract to us (do not email it to us). Be advised that we service computer systems based on a first come (i.e. who contracts with us first), first serve basis. Please complete all applicable parts (all blank spaces that apply to your situation are to be initialed; use dark ink; attach additional sheets as you need):

______ (Required if any hardware or software installation, modification, upgrade or update change is needed, (2)(B) - (2)(F) above) (5) (NOTE: Consumertronics.net will not make any installation, modification, upgrade or update change to a system experiencing a known uncorrected problem or defect unless such change is required to detect, determine, reduce, cure or prevent that specific type of problem or defect.) I need Consumertronics.net to perform the following installation, modification, upgrade or update performed on my computer or peripheral Item (please describe in detail the exact installation, modification, upgrade or update that you wish us to do on your computer hardware or software specifically referring to the applicable hardware or software letter in (1) above):

______ (Required if a computer tune-up is needed, (2)(G) above) (6) (NOTE: A computer tune-up or one-time maintenance entails removing all detected temporary files (e.g. temp, cache, history, cookie, etc. files), repair of all detected registry errors, full system scans and corrections for all detected bad disk sectors, viruses, trojan horses, worms, popups, adware/spyware, and defragmentation of the hard drive, and is highly recommended, if not imperative, unless you have already performed all of these within the last 100 hours of Internet access.) I need Consumertronics.net to tune-up the the following computer Items (please specify the Item using the letter in (1) above):

______ (Required if the recovery of computer data is needed, (2)(H) above) (7) (NOTE: While sophisticated means is used to try to recover data from computers, especially for forensic data recovery, not all computer data is recoverable, especially if no plaintext undamaged backup or earlier version can be found. For example, if the files are overwritten, often only end bits and pieces can be retrieved. Or if the files are erased in a BCWIPE type way that totally wipes out all data on each disk sector. Or if a very sophisticated means is used to encrypt or encode the files. Or if the drive was low-level formatted. Or if the drive catastrophically failed. Or if the recording medium is damaged beyond rescue.*) I need Consumertronics.net to attempt data recovery on the following computer Items (please specify the Item using the letter in (1) above):
             (1__), (1__), (1__), (1__), (1__), (1__), (1__), (1__),(1__), (1__)
*Magnetic recording medium is tougher than you might believe. In one case, six 3.5" floppies with tax data accidentally fell into a bucket of hot and dirty mop water and were not discovered for five hours. I was able to fully recover all but one disk. I did this by very carefully and patiently rinsing them off, slitting their jackets, removing the magnetic media "cookie" for each, washing the media very well with a special solution of mine, drying them with a soft cotton cloth, slitting open the jackets on 6 new diskettes and replacing their blank media with the valuable media, then inserting each transplanted disk into the floppy drive and copying their data over to the hard drive.

______ (Required if you wish us to perform any other type of service, (2)(I) above) (8) (NOTE: Complete this if none of the other categories above fully apply, such as for long term or continuous maintenance, website design or maintenance, other computer programming, recovery of a particular file or set of files, registry repair or registry modification only, technical research, etc.) I need Consumertronics.net to perform the following special services on my computer or peripheral Item (please describe in detail the exact special service that you wish us to do for you on the applicable hardware or software letter in (1) above):
             (1__) _____________________________________________________________________
             (1__) _____________________________________________________________________
             (1__) _____________________________________________________________________
             (1__) _____________________________________________________________________
             (1__) _____________________________________________________________________

______ (Required) (9) I fully and unconditionally understand and agree that computer repairs, installations, modifications, upgrades, updates, fine-tunings, data recoveries and special services don't always turn out as expected. Sometimes, problems can be worsened when reasonable attempts were made to improve them, and sometimes when that occurs, the system cannot be returned 100% to its previous state. And serious hardware and software failures are often unpredictable, and often not caused by the servicing of the computer (e.g. a hard drive can crash while you are installing a new printer driver). Therefore, I will never hold Consumertronics.net or any of its officers, employees, associates and agents in any way responsible or liable to damage that may occur to any hardware or software that I provided Consumertronics.net as part of this contract.

______ (Required) (10) I fully and unconditionally understand and agree that the absolute total maximum Consumertronics.net and all of its officers, employees, associates and agents are ever responsible or liable for to all persons who may claim damages from them relevant to this contract is the total amount I have paid it for these services, and that neither Consumertronics.net nor any of its officers, employees, associates or agents is ever severally or jointly responsible or liable for any damages beyond that total amount, or to any third parties based on any reason or theory of law.

______ (Required if any repairs or tune-up is made on my computer) (11) I fully and unconditionally understand and agree that, unless explicitly contracted for to the contrary, the service I am now contracting for is a one time job that completes when Consumertronics.net either returns my system to me or states that it has completed its efforts to service my computer under this contract, plus a maximum of 60 days for me to check out my system. Furthermore, I fully understand and agree that since a repaired or tuned-up computer can redevelop the same problem and defect if exposed to the original cause(s) (e.g. running an infected program will re-infect your system) of the problem or defect (which may not be completely known), during this 60 day warranty period, I will not allow anyone to make or attempt to make any repairs, installations, uninstallations, reinstallations, modifications, upgrades, updates, or other operational changes on my system or on any part of it without prior explicit written permission from Consumertronics.net. Furthermore, I will not allow anyone to do or attempt to do any of these other activities on my computer system: (A) Open up any email attachments on my system, (B) Engage in any activity with my computer that I or Consumertronics.net has identified as a likely cause of the repaired problem or defect (including, but not limited, to running certain programs and visiting certain websites), and (C) Use my computer system in any other way that would reasonably tend to damage or expose it to significant risks of problems or defects. Furthermore, I fully understand and agree that should I or anyone else do any such actions or attempted actions on my computer system during this 60 day period without prior written permission from Consumertronics.net, that this warranty and all other warranties that may apply are immediately terminated with no liability to Consumertronics.net or to any of its officers, employees, associates or agents.

______ (Required) (12) I have read all of this contract and I fully and unconditionally understand and agree to all of its provisions.

______ (Required) (13) I fully and unconditionally understand and agree that all work that Consumertronics.net does for me is for legal utility, educational and/or entertainment purposes only, and that all of our privacy and other policies (policies.htm) fully and unconditionally apply.

Please include with this form your $35 nonrefundable evaluation fee for our evaluation of your system. Please do NOT send us your system unless and until we ask for you to send it to us in writing. At this time, we do not work on Mac computers. If we do not believe we can do a good job to service your computer system in a satisfactory manner, we will turn down your job. If you are a minor or have a legal guardian, then this form must be completed by your parent or legal guardian. Send to: John J. Williams, P.O. Box 23097, Albuquerque, NM 87192, or Fax: (call to schedule) (we usually accept VISA and Mastercard for the evaluation fee; however, we accept only checks and money orders for all other charges, as well as for the evaluation fee).
