We Buy, Sell and Trade equipment Online, including directly from our webpages (items4trade.htm) and from Online Auction services (e.g. eBay: http://stores.ebay.com/consumertronics), now for about a decade. Most of this equipment is used. Unfortunately, much of today's equipment is powered by AC power adapters and DC power adapters (mostly transformer power adapters), and that these power adapters tend to become easily lost or broken (probably a big reason why manufacturers love to use them!). Without the power adapter, equipment is useless clutter. Over the years, we have bought 100s of pieces of perfectly good equipment but sold to us cheap because the owners lost or damaged their power adapters or substituted wrong power adapters (failed power adapter is a major reason why equipment stops working). For us to test, repair (as necessary), and resell this equipment, we must replace the broken, incorrect or missing power adapters. We have bought 100s of new and used AC adapters and DC adapters of numerous configurations just to restore the no-adapter equipment we sell. We now have a supply of power adapters so huge we can offer you this special power adapter replacement service - all power adapters are inspected and checked out UNDER LOAD and organized for easy finding (under load testing of power adapters is important because some power adapters will test OK when connected to power but not connected to load, giving false impression they are good, but fail when connected to normal load).

Even with our vigilant efforts to rescue no-adapter equipment here in Albuquerque, NM, and surrounding areas, we are lucky if for every no-adapter device we rescue less than 1,000 no-adapter devices are wastefully thrown away by their owners to fill up our already overflowing landfills and pollute the environment. Some donate their broken electronics to "recyclers" - feeling good that somehow they are helping the environment. Truth is many "recyclers" are greedy for-profit corporations who abuse Third World Countries with little or no environmental protection laws or worker safety laws - thereby transferring electronic pollution to other countries (check them out for yourself). And tell your friends and loved ones so they aren't duped by these "recyclers" - hyped up by politicians, the news media and electronic retailers, all eager for people to dispose of their electronic equipment so they can buy more.

Except for their lack of power adapters, most of this equipment we've run into is perfectly functional and have years of life left in them for their owners - if only it wasn't such a major hassle with usually disappointing results for equipment owners to try to find replacement power adapters. Instead, many equipment owners out of frustration either throw away or sell very cheap perfectly good equipment simply for lack of power adapters - many of these devices they will have to buy and reprogram all over again at time and financial losses to themselves.

Why do we need 100s of AC adapters and DC adapters to support our equipment rescue services? Today's AC adapters and DC adapters come in 100s of different popular configurations. There are now about 20 different popular power adapter connector types used. Furthermore, each of these connectors, even if single-voltage, can be wired VAC, or polarized VDC with either positive center conductor or negative center conductor. And each of these different power adapter connectors can come in any one of many different popular secondary voltage levels: AC POWER ADAPTERS: 1.5VAC, 2.4VAC, 3VAC, 3.6VAC, 4VAC, 4.5VAC, 4.8VAC, 5VAC, 6VAC, 7.2VAC, 7.5VAC, 8VAC, 9VAC, 9.6VAC, 10VAC, 12VAC, 13.5VAC, 14VAC, 14.4 VAC, 15VAC, 15.6VAC, 16VAC, 18VAC, 19.2VAC, 20VAC, 24VAC, 28VAC, 30VAC, 36VAC, 48VAC, and DC POWER ADAPTERS: 1.5VDC, 2.4VDC, 3VDC, 3.6VDC, 4VDC, 4.5VDC, 4.8VDC, 5VDC, 6VDC, 7.2VDC, 7.5VDC, 8VDC, 9VDC, 9.6VDC, 10VDC, 12VDC, 13.5VDC, 14VDC, 14.4 VDC, 15VDC, 15.6VDC, 16VDC, 18VDC, 19.2VDC, 20VDC, 24VDC, 28VDC, 30VDC, 36VDC, 48VDC (plus some nonstandard voltages as well). Furthermore, power adapter secondary current ratings popularly range from about 50 milliamps to about 5 amps current levels. The rated AC voltage frequency rating can also affect output and adapter heating, and thus also be important - 60 Hz in the USA, 50 Hz in Europe (non-USA equipment, including power adapters, also use different wall connectors and some non-USA power adapters are rated for 240 VAC - not 120 VAC). Furthermore, there are technical distinctions between power adapters, power transformers, power chargers, power converters and power inverters that may prevent them from being interchangeable even when all of the other specifications would imply compatibility (we use the term, "power adapter" herein in the generic sense to include power supplies of all types, including AC power adapters, DC power adapters, power transformers, power chargers, power converters, and power inverters). Today, even power adapters have been made by the electronics industry to be far more complex and confusing than they should ever be! Seems like the electronics industry intentionally makes power adapters easy to lose and break but difficult and time-consuming to replace - the Achilles heal of modern technology.

To properly replace a power adapter requires getting the power adapter connector absolutely right, the power adapter connector wiring absolutely right, the voltage and current levels at least close, and sometimes the AC voltage frequency absolutely right. Trying to find such a power adapter at the store, online, or at a flea market or garage sale is tedious, time-consuming and unlikely to be successful. Even IF the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) still carries your power adapter, buying it from them is often even a greater hassle - sometimes entailing time-consuming, frustrating and expensive international calls, long waits for back order, trying to understand foreign tech support, and a big price. Equipment makers usually prefer that you toss your equipment and buy an expensive replacement for the entire expensive equipment because that profits them most - they are often very unhelpful in your quest replace a power adapter on a cost effective basis.

We can possibly help you! Email us (wizguru@consumertronics.net - put "Power Adapter Inquiry" in email SUBJECT LINE) with what your equipment is (make, model, its function, approx. year), and the make, model and description of the AC adapter or DC adapter it uses the best you can (adapter voltage, current and power, adapter connector configuration (AC? DC? DC polarity?) - usually found on the power adapter and/or at equipment power connector port), and adapter connector diameter or its equipment port opening diameter, and/or name of specific connector type), and your name and address. Convenient form is below. You can also include a JPG or GIF (but not DOC, XLS or ZIP file) image of your equipment and its power adapter / power connector port (your equipment User Manual may have some of these images that you can scan in) as best you can. In fact, provide us a list of all of the no-adapter equipment you have around your home and/or business that you want to replace the power adapters for, and if we can find more than one adapter for you, you will save substantially on your S/H. You should also include a list of your equipment (with power adapters) that won't power up or act erratically after being powered up - the problems might be solved simply by replacing power adapters that are broken or defective. Please do not phone us with your power adapter needs - we are often in the lab or in the field, and cannot access our inventory computers and our other sources power adapters immediately - please EMAIL US instead.

Don't fret if you cannot find out much about your power adapter. Often, with just the make and model of your no-adapter equipment, we can determine what adapter it uses. And if that doesn't work, we may ask you to send us your equipment and we will do our best to ferret out what power adapter it needs, supply you an adapter that makes it work and provide you that information for your future needs. We have developed several effective proprietary electronic techniques that we have successfully used to ferret out equipment power supply requirements for no-adapter equipment for which we have no initial power requirement information (our special electronic techniques work about 80% of the time). Do not send us your equipment unless we ask you to send us your equipment in writing (Note: Because we have little room to store equipment, we must dispose of unsolicited equipment without liability to us).

If we can find your AC adapter or DC adapter or one equivalent to it, we will quote you a price for it, including S/H (while we have several 100s of these power modules in about 100 different popular power adapter configurations, we don't have every known adapter configuration, so we can't guarantee that we can find a good replacement for you). Our power adapter prices vary widely based on power adapter physical size, number of outputs, frequency / voltage / current / power ratings, and rarity to us, but most are about $15 + S/H (which includes testing it under load to verify operation).

If we cannot replace your power adapter for you or we can but our price is unacceptable to you or you would rather sell your broken equipment, there is no charge, and we will then seriously consider buying your equipment from you (for no-adapter equipment we use inhouse, we design and build our own power supplies; however, since our policy is to not sell any device we make to the general public, we do not provide our customers with our inhouse-built power supplies to replace their power adapters - if we can't find a commercially-made power adapter for you, we cannot replace your power adapter). If we buy your equipment from you and your equipment is of a type that has your data stored on it (e.g. laptop computer, notebook computer, IPod, PDA, some cellphones, etc.) - data now lost to you - we will at NO CHARGE TO YOU try to recover your data for you, and if we can, mail you your lost data on CDROM disk(s) and treat your recovered data with 100% confidentiality (Note: We cannot guarantee to what extent we can recover your data for you - only that we will make an immediate and serious data recovery effort - as we have no way of knowing whether or not your equipment hard drive or other memory storage is damaged and to what extent damaged because some power failures will permanently damage hard drives and/or other memories).

Whether we provide you your power adapter or buy your no-adapter equipment from you, at least you should get some use or money value from your equipment and it won't end up polluting a landfill. Furthermore, we neither guarantee nor accept any liability that any power supply, including AC adapter or DC adapter, we provide you is a close enough match to what is required to prevent damage or loss of the power supply or the equipment, or for how long the equipment and/or our provided power supply will last. We do test all power supplies under load prior to shipment to make sure they test good, and we won't intentionally sell you a power supply that we know is not equivalent or is inadequate to what your equipment requires.

For each replacement power adapter you seek, please print out and complete a PAF the best you can - even if you lack some of its data. Then mail, or scan into your computer and email-attach wizguru@consumertronics.net to us your completed PAF (Note: Only JPG and GIF file image formats are permitted, or copy and paste directly into body of your email) along with images, if possible, of the equipment, its power port, and/or of the adapter (Note: Your "User Manual" may be helpful here):
